MINSK, Aug. 21 — President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar U Min Aung Hlaing and Belarusian President Mr. Alexander Lukashenko held talks at the Presidential Palace in Minsk on Aug. 21, discussing ways to expand bilateral cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including agriculture and livestock breeding, economy and trade, technology, defence and security, and space technology.
At the invitation of the Belarusian President, President U Min Aung Hlaing is paying an official visit to Belarus. He was welcomed with a guard of honour at the Presidential Palace at 11 a.m. local time before the two leaders held a one-on-one meeting.
President Lukashenko said Belarus would provide further support for projects currently being implemented in cooperation with Myanmar and stood ready to assist, to the extent possible, with needs related to the socio-economic well-being of the Myanmar people. In particular, he said Belarus would share its agricultural and livestock breeding technologies and experience with Myanmar.
President U Min Aung Hlaing said the visit marked his fourth trip to Belarus and that the delegation included not only government officials but also business representatives. He said the main purpose of the visit was to further promote bilateral cooperation in various sectors, particularly economic and trade relations.
The Myanmar President said Belarus had previously stated that it placed no restrictions on cooperation with Myanmar in economic, technological and other fields. He expressed confidence that this would create greater opportunities for Myanmar to cooperate with Belarus in support of the country’s development.
The two leaders also discussed existing cooperation and prospects for further collaboration in the economic and technological sectors, as well as in defence and security and space technology. They also exchanged views on strengthening diplomatic relations, including the upgrading of Myanmar’s Consulate-General in Belarus to an embassy.
In addition, the two leaders exchanged views on Myanmar’s political developments, efforts toward national development and domestic peace, and ways to strengthen regional and international cooperation.
President Lukashenko reaffirmed that previously discussed matters would continue to be implemented and said Belarus remained ready to provide necessary assistance and support to Myanmar.
President U Min Aung Hlaing and President Alexander Lukashenko also held an informal meeting at the Belarusian Presidential Residence on the evening of Aug. 20, during which they discussed matters related to bilateral cooperation.
