In a significant show of diplomatic solidarity, Indonesian Foreign Minister Mr. Sugiono paid a strategic day visit to Myanmar on June 8, voicing absolute confidence in President U Min Aung Hlaing’s elected administration to steer the country toward greater peace and prosperity.
The high-level discussions took place at the Presidential Guest House in the capital, shortly after the Indonesian delegation touched down. According to official releases from the Myanmar government, Mr. Sugiono took the opportunity during this courtesy call to validate the complex landscape Myanmar is navigating, noting that Jakarta deeply understands the nation’s current challenges.
Strengthening the ASEAN Pillar
At the heart of the dialogue was Indonesia’s unwavering view of Myanmar as an essential friend and an indispensable member of the ASEAN family. President U Min Aung Hlaing and Mr. Sugiono explored ongoing support mechanisms, with Indonesia pledging to assist Myanmar in its journey toward national success and stability.
The two leaders also took a pragmatic look at regional commitments. They reviewed Myanmar’s ongoing efforts to implement the ASEAN Five-Point Consensus, strategized on maximizing cooperation within the broader ASEAN community, and discussed actionable steps to fortify the often-complex Myanmar-ASEAN dynamic while enhancing bilateral friendships.

During the candid exchange of views, the Myanmar government reiterated its central goal: to act as a landmark, reliable administration dedicated to fostering a secure, stable, and thriving society for its citizens. Both parties enthusiastically discussed avenues to elevate their diplomatic ties and mutual cooperation.

Mr. Sugiono was joined by Mr. Santo Darmosumarto, Indonesia’s Director General for Asian, Pacific, and African Affairs, alongside various embassy representatives.
