Wazira (Vajira) Cinema, also known as the Excelsior theatre, located at No. 327, Bogyoke Aung San Road, Kyauktada Township, Yangon, is a historic cinema built around 1923. It’s adorned with Beaux-Arts architectural styles and reliefs, incorporating 16th to 18th-century architectural features. This makes it a significant building for Myanmar’s film history that deserves to be preserved. Wazira Cinema has also been a hub for artistic souls, where film, performing arts, and music artists presented films and plays for the public’s entertainment.

The Government is now planning to upgrade the Wazira Cinema into a Red Carpet Theatre. Once the upgrade is complete, it will be used not only as a cinema but also for plays, theatrical performances, puppet shows, dances, music events, discussions, meetings, training sessions, studios, and spaces for artistic creation.
Therefore, Ministry of Information kindly request and inform the public to donate original or copied architectural information, blueprints, performance records, and audience photos related to Wazira Cinema. Please contact the Department of Information and Public Relations and the Myanmar Motion Picture Organization.
