Announcement on Temporary Ceasefire

(1387 ME, 10th Waxing of Kason)

May 6, 2025

1. Due to the powerful earthquake that struck Mandalay on March 28, causing significant destruction, the Tatmadaw (Myanmar Armed Forces) had previously declared a temporary ceasefire from April 2 to April 30, 2025, to enable effective rescue and rehabilitation efforts in the disaster-affected areas.

2. At present, the government is actively continuing the reconstruction and rehabilitation works in the earthquake-affected regions, including rebuilding damaged government offices, public homes, and transportation infrastructure. International assistance is also being provided in support of these efforts.

3. Therefore, in order to further expedite the reconstruction and rehabilitation in the earthquake-affected areas, to better serve the interests of the nation and all its people, and to promote long-term, genuine peace and stability, the Tatmadaw hereby extends the temporary ceasefire period from May 6 to May 31, 2025.

4. During this ceasefire period, all ethnic armed organizations and other armed groups are urged not to disrupt or attack public transportation routes, not to damage the lives and properties of civilians, and not to assault security personnel, military camps, or headquarters. Furthermore, they must not mobilize forces, organize offensives, or expand territorial control, as such actions would harm the peace process. If such actions are carried out, the Tatmadaw will take necessary responsive measures to protect the people.
