On March 28, 2025, a powerful earthquake struck Mandalay and surrounding regions in central Myanmar, resulting in immense loss of life and widespread devastation. As of April 9, official figures confirm 3,645 deaths, 5,017 injuries, and 148 individuals still missing.

In the immediate aftermath of the disaster, when time was of the essence, more than 20 countries—including China, India, Thailand, and Russia—swiftly dispatched emergency response teams. These international teams arrived within hours of the quake, working in close coordination with Myanmar’s national rescue forces. Their swift actions, deep compassion, and tireless commitment to saving lives exemplify the spirit of global solidarity.

Despite the scale of the destruction, international rescuers stood shoulder to shoulder with Myanmar’s emergency personnel and volunteers, demonstrating extraordinary bravery and dedication. Their efforts have left an indelible mark on our nation’s collective memory—one of humanity united in crisis.

The Myanmar Narrative Think Tank extends its deepest gratitude to the governments, rescue organizations, international NGOs, and humanitarian volunteers from around the world who answered our call for help. Your unwavering support and life-saving contributions will forever be remembered by the people of Myanmar.

We also honor the exceptional courage and commitment shown by Myanmar’s own rescue teams, civil society volunteers, local donors, and community members. Your unity, strength, and compassion have been a beacon of hope in the darkest hours.

As emergency response operations gradually conclude, Myanmar now faces the long and complex road to recovery and reconstruction. This next chapter will demand continued international partnership and sustained solidarity.

We call on the global community to stand with Myanmar—not only in times of disaster, but throughout the journey of rebuilding homes, restoring livelihoods, and healing lives.

Let us move forward together—in unity, with compassion, and with hope.
