Nay Pyi Taw — The Chinese emergency rescue teams that arrived in Myanmar to assist in the aftermath of the recent devastating earthquake in Mandalay have successfully concluded their mission and returned home. Early this morning, four Y-20 military transport aircraft departed from Nay Pyi Taw military airport, carrying the teams back to China.

The teams, comprising over 260 members, included personnel from the China International Search and Rescue Team (CISAR), Chinese Blue Sky Search and Rescue (Beijing), and the Hong Kong China Search and Rescue Team. They were among the first international responders to arrive in Myanmar and commence rescue operations.

Motivated by a deep sense of humanitarian responsibility, the Chinese teams worked tirelessly around the clock in both Nay Pyi Taw and Mandalay. Their efforts led to the successful rescue of four survivors and the recovery of 64 deceased individuals, who were respectfully returned to their families.

The rescue mission was carried out in close coordination with Myanmar’s emergency response units, including personnel from the Myanmar Fire Services Department, the military, local volunteers, and the Myanmar Police Force. In addition to search and recovery operations, the Chinese teams also provided emergency medical care in the affected areas.

Before their departure, Myanmar’s Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement held a gratitude ceremony for the Chinese rescue teams on the evening of April 8. The event was attended by Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council, Deputy Prime Minister, and Vice Senior General Soe Win, who delivered a speech expressing heartfelt appreciation.

As the teams departed, they were warmly bid farewell by senior Myanmar officials, including Lt. General Tun Tun Naung, Deputy Chair 1 of the National Committee for Natural Disaster Management and Union Minister for Home Affairs; U Than Tun Oo, Chairman of the Nay Pyi Taw Council; U Lwin Oo, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs; along with officials from the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, and the Ministry of Health.
